The Pastor's Corner
TWENTY FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
August 22 2010

The word of God proclaims truth, even if the truth sometimes hurts.

It is only by the means of truth–believed and lived–that one can come to life. In a world filled with deception and lies, the truths Jesus taught shine as a light through a narrow door, showing us the path to eternal life. As Christians, we cannot just know Christ. We must follow Christ. Taking His path, we plant our feet firmly on the way to eternal life.

The Prophet Isaiah tells us that God's will is for people of all nations to give him glory. The reading from Hebrews tells us that what is difficult can make us strong. In the Gospel, Jesus uses an example of a narrow gate to teach that it will not be easy to live so as to gain entrance into the heavenly Kingdom.

FORTY DAYS: The Burlington 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign will be held from September 22 to October 31this year and we need your help. 40 Days for Life is a focused, prayerful presence at abortion clinics across America, seeking God's mercy and power for an end to abortion. The Burlington location will be on Mansfield Avenue, across from Planned Parenthood, where up to 15 abortions occur every Wednesday. Our peaceful, prayerful witness at the Burlington Planned Parenthood as given at least two young ladies the courage to say no to abortion and yes to life! God is good! There will be an informational meeting for 40 Days for Life on August 22 from 1:00 to 3:00 at St. Anthony Church on Pine St. in Burlington. Please consider attending this meeting and helping us plan and conduct our best 40 Days for Life campaign yet! If you can not attend the meeting, please give me a call or drop me a line to find out how the Lord is asking you to be part of this very exciting movement for life. Rita Mantone 899-2609,

ADORATION CHAPEL: PERPETUAL ADORATION – Cast your cares upon the Lord and you will find comfort. Summer is upon us and traveling is easy. Would you like to spend time in a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of life? Any time would be the right time. Jesus is calling you to adore and praise Him for all the good in your life. Please join us. Call Lindel at 229 – 5050. In a recent sermon, a Pastor told of his experience he had encountered in his vocation. The person explained his sorrow for not attending Sunday Mass because of his job. He told Fr. that he managed to find a church weekly so he could “talk” to God. He said that he would go to the tabernacle, touch the Altar cloth and think of the woman in the gospel who Jesus healed, he felt if Jesus did that for her he would do it for “me”. The Priest, when thanked by the gentle man for his time, said, “It is I who should Thank You. I am at church always and have neglected to realize what you discovered and what I take for granted.” Note: Our chapel with Jesus present to us every day awaits a visit from his dear children. Stop by and touch his garments, and be healed!
